چکیده

We investigate cellular automata whose internal inter-cell communication is bounded. The communication is quantitatively measured by the number of uses of the links between cells. Bounds on the sum of all communications of a computation as well as bounds on the maximal number of communications that may appear between each two cells are considered. It is shown that even the weakest non-trivial device in question, that is, one-way cellular automata where each two neighboring cells may communicate constantly often only, accept rather complicated languages. We investigate the computational capacity of the devices in question and prove an infinite strict hierarchy depending on the bound on the total number of communications during a computation. Despite their sparse communication even for the weakest devices, by reduction of Hilbert’s tenth problem undecidability of several problems is derived. Finally, the question whether a given real-time one-way cellular automaton belongs to the weakest class is shown to be undecidable. This result can be adapted to answer an open question posed in [Vollmar, R.: Zur Zustandsänderungskomplexität von Zellularautomaten. In: Beiträge zur Theorie der Polyautomaten—zweite Folge, Braunschweig (1982) 139–151 (in German)]. Fast Cellular Automata Implementation on Graphic Processor Unit (GPU) for Salt and Pepper Noise Removal

Noise removal operation is commonly applied as pre-processing step before subsequent image processing tasks due to the occurrence of noise during acquisition or transmission process. A common problem in imaging systems by using CMOS or CCD sensors is appearance of  the salt and pepper noise. This paper presents Cellular Automata (CA) framework for noise removal of distorted image by the salt an...

Generic parity generators design using LTEx methodology: A quantum-dot cellular automata based approach

Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA) is a prominent paradigm that is considered to continue its dominance in thecomputation at deep sub-micron regime in nanotechnology. The QCA realizations of five-input Majority Voter based multilevel parity generator circuits have been introduced in recent years. However, no attention has been paid towards the QCA instantiation of the generic (n-bit) even and ...

Bounded Languages Meet Cellular Automata with Sparse Communication

Cellular automata are one-dimensional arrays of interconnected interacting finite automata. We investigate one of the weakest classes, the real-time one-way cellular automata, and impose an additional restriction on their inter-cell communication by bounding the number of allowed uses of the links between cells. Moreover, we consider the devices as acceptors for bounded languages in order to ex...

Edge Detection Based On Nearest Neighbor Linear Cellular Automata Rules and Fuzzy Rule Based System

Edge Detection is an important task for sharpening the boundary of images to detect the region of interest. This paper applies a linear cellular automata rules and a Mamdani Fuzzy inference model for edge detection in both monochromatic and the RGB images. In the uniform cellular automata a transition matrix has been developed for edge detection. The Results have been compared to the ...
